November Trial In 2004 Slayings Of 3 Children
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A November date has been set for the third trial for two illegal immigrants from Mexico accused in the 2004 deaths of three young relatives.
Policarpio Espinoza Perez, 29, and Adan Espinoza Canela, 24, entered not guilty pleas on Thursday in Baltimore Circuit Court. The trial is scheduled for Nov. 10.
The pair has been held since their arrests a day after the slayings.
Eight-year-old Lucero Espinoza, her 9-year-old brother, Ricardo Espinoza; and their 10-year-old male cousin, Alexis Espejo Quezada, were found with their throats slashed.
The men are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree murder and conspiracy. Their first trial ended in a hung jury and they successfully appealed convictions in their retrial, arguing that the judge failed to properly disclose jury notes.
