North Carolina Central Beats Morgan State 69-61
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Ray Willis posted 19 points to go with five rebounds and three steals as North Carolina Central beat Morgan State 69-61 Monday in Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference play for the Eagles' sixth straight win.
Stanton Kidd had his 10th consecutive game in double figures with 13 and Jay Copeland scored six of his 10 points in the opening 6 minutes.
NC Central (13-7, 6-0) trailed 17-15 before using an 11-2 run to jump ahead 26-19. Morgan State cut the deficit to two but the Eagles outscored the Bears 15-6 over the final 6:33 to take a 42-31 advantage into the break.
NC Central shot 48 percent (20 of 42) and converted 26 of 33 free throws. The Eagles have made 20-plus free throws in three of their last four games.
Justin Black and Anthony Hubbard each tallied 20 for Morgan State (6-12, 3-4), which was 15-for-32 shooting at the stripe.
