NJ Detective Charged In Md. Fatal Road Rage Shooting Free On Bond
GAMBRILLS, Md. (AP) -- A New Jersey detective charged with fatally shooting a fellow motorist during a roadside confrontation in Maryland has been released on a $1 million bond.
A jail representative confirmed Thursday that Joseph Walker of Eastampton, N.J., has been released. Walker is accused of killing 36-year-old Joseph Harvey Jr. on Saturday.
Walker's attorney has said the detective did not initiate the fight and that Harvey ignored repeated warnings from Walker, who identified himself as a police officer. The attorney has said Walker's wife and children were in the van and Harvey threatened to kill the family.
Walker is a sworn officer with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in New Jersey. He has been suspended from duty without pay.
