New Year's Eve Band Promises To Get Funky
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- As crews get the Inner Harbor prepped for Saturday's New Year's Eve party, the night's main entertainment is getting ready to funk up the stage.
Monique Griego has more on what we can expect from the 8 Ohms Band.
Their sound is a mix of everything that makes you feel good.
In 2007, Kevin Basiliko started the 8 Ohms Band, an 8-piece horn, heavy funk and soul group from Annapolis.
"I play saxophone so in a way I'm kind of the horn section, in a way, kind of the leader," said Basiliko.
And on New Year's Eve, as fireworks light up the sky at the Inner Harbor, Basiliko, his horns and the rest of the band will be blowing up Baltimore's New Year's Eve bash.
"I'm excited man," said lead singer Billy Martin. "It's going to be huge. We've played the Harbor Place a few times before, but I don't think anything this spectacular."
Martin says he plans to belt out some of the band's original songs, as well as popular covers.
"We try to play something for the young and young at heart," said Martin.
"We're going to play funk, soul, R&B and a little bit of reggae," Basiliko said.
And while playing in front of thousands of people will no doubt be a good time, the guys also don't mind the exposure.
"There's going to be tons of people from in town and people from out-of-town," said Basiliko.
Thousands of people - 8 Ohms believes -- who will be compelled to get funky this new year.
"You might hear it off in the distance. Come down, hang out with us for a few hours, dance a little, groove a little," said Martin.
The 8 Ohms Band will have a ninth member for their New Year's Eve performance. They'll be joined on stage by a female singer who they say is sure to spice things up.
