New Trial Denied For Imprisoned Former Policeman
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A former Prince George's County police officer and homeland security official who shot and killed a furniture delivery man has been denied a new trial.
State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks announced Tuesday that a county judge has denied Keith Washington's request for a new trial. Washington will be permitted to ask a three-judge panel to review his sentence.
Washington was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and first-degree assault in the 2007 shooting, in which Brandon Clark was killed and a second delivery man, Robert White, was wounded. Washington claimed the men attacked him first.
Washington is serving a 45-year prison term. If the request for a sentence review is made, the panel will have the option to increase, decrease or leave the sentence the same.
