New Report Suggests Future For Sparrows Point Steel Mill Site
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A new report will suggest future uses for the former Sparrows Point steel mill site.
Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says the findings of the Sparrows Point Partnership will be announced Friday in Towson.
Kamenetz formed the group of 16 business and private sector leaders last May to advise the county on uses for industrially zoned properties on the Sparrows Point peninsula, which includes the site of the former steel mill.
The mill outside Baltimore was once the largest in the world, employing as many as 30,000 workers. The last owner of the former Bethlehem Steel mill declared bankruptcy last year and an industrial liquidator has announced it will raze the mill. Kamenetz has said the study will be used to promote port-related job activity in the area.
