New Owings Mills Shopping Area To Include Wegmans
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ)—Building up Owings Mills. Three new projects in the Baltimore County area promise shopping and jobs.
Andrea Fujii tells us about the newest one at the former Solo Cup Factory.
Sitting on prime real estate on Reisterstown Road, developers have big plans for what used to be the Solo Cup Factory.
They're "redeveloping a warehouse that's really kind of an eyesore, which is located in the main retail corridor of Owings Mills," said Brian Gibbons, developer.
Within the next few years, it will be a 52-acre shopping facility called Foundry Row with supermarket Wegmans as its anchor.
"It will be lovely to have different stores in this neighborhood," said an Owings Mills resident
"I'm looking forward to the Wegmans store being there," said another.
When done it's expected to support 3,100 Baltimore County jobs and bring in more than $8 million a year in state tax revenue.
But residents have concerns.
"I'm not looking forward to the traffic," said an Owings Mills resident. "They really are going to have to do something because it's already bad."
And to alleviate some of those worries, the developer hopes to add up to four lanes on Reisterstown Road. And this isn't the only area project.
Construction is already underway at the Owings Mills Metro Centre that includes a CCBC extension and new library.
And there are plans to re-develop Owings Mills Mall.
These are three projects residents have big hopes for.
"For the last 20 years we have had not much. Once the mall started to die we have always had to go someplace else to do our shopping," said Vicki Almond, Baltimore County Council Chair
Demolition is expected to start this spring and Foundry Row could be done by the end of 2014.
The project is expected to cost $140 million.
