New Md. Task Force For Juvenile Offenses Meeting For First Time
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A new Maryland task force that will review the best practices for handling offenses committed by juveniles has postponed its first meeting.
The Task Force on Juvenile Court Jurisdiction was scheduled to meet Wednesday in Baltimore at the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention but because of a scheduling conflict the group will now meet in August. The Maryland General Assembly created the task force responsible for studying current laws relating to the jurisdiction of the juvenile court.
The task force will be making recommendations on whether or not to eliminate existing offenses that automatically result in adult charges. It will also recommend ways to reduce the number of youth in adult detention centers and prisons, among other things. The final report and recommendations are due Dec. 1.
