New Maryland Football coach DJ Durkin joins Sports Rehab
New Maryland Head Football Coach DJ Durkin joined Bob Haynie on Sports Rehab to discuss the Terps football program moving forward.
A new era of Maryland football begun recently with the hire of former University of Michigan defensive coordinator DJ Durkin as the new Head coach. Durkin has an impressive coaching background with stints at Bowling Green, Utah, Stanford, and Florida having served under both Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer. Durkin, 37, is a native of Youngstown, Ohio and played collegiately at Bowling Green.
A big question from Terp fans is the status of former interim Head Coach Mike Locksley. Locksley took over the top spot in the program after Randy Edsall was relieved of his duties and ld the team to a 1-4 record over the final 5 games. Locksley is also largely responsible for the highly regarded incoming recruiting class. Bob asked Coach Durkin if Locksley was still in consideration for a position on his coaching staff. "He's more than a consideration" said Durkin. "He's a phenomenal coach and recruiter and a valuable guy."
