NE Storm Causing Travel Troubles At BWI
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The winter storm continues to cause several delays on the roads, in the air and on the railways.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the travel woes.
Dozens of delays and cancellations are due to the blizzard that dumped several feet of snow across the upper Northeast from Boston to New York. While we didn't see any snow in our area, it still caused a number of issues for travelers.
It's been a long day and night for travelers trying to get home to places like Hartford, Conn., where several feet of snow fell Friday.
"It's been a nightmare," Chuck Irving said.
Chuck Irving and his buddy Dennis Murphy have been all over the U.S. trying to get home.
"Started in Las Vegas this morning at 6 a.m., went into Detroit. My flight into Hartford was canceled, so then we went down here to Baltimore and my flight once again to Hartford was canceled again so now we're going to take a train up to New York City and try to get home from there tomorrow," said Irving.
"It's literally planes, trains and automobiles. We've done the whole nine yards," Murphy said.
As of midday Friday, BWI had canceled 33 incoming flights and 43 outgoing flights, and more than 30 had been delayed.
Across the board at BWI there are still a number of cancellations for Saturday night, but some flights are already canceled Sunday. The stories are much different for Penn Station travelers--who are having an easy time getting around with very few cancellations.
"Well, I am actually up here visiting my daughter Autumn for her birthday and I'm from Florida, and I was really worried my trip here to visit her would be ruined," said Shannon Porras.
Crews are working diligently across the Northeast to get the runways and tracks clear and get everyone back on schedule. But travelers are not holding their breath or expecting an easy trip Sunday.
"The way this trip is going there is absolutely no way that my plane is going to work and it will have to be completely reorganized in the morning," said Murphy.
And things could be a little easier for people traveling by train. Amtrak will now have limited service to New York and Boston.
Several buses also had to be canceled due to the snow.
