NBA Royalty Play At Morgan State University

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The biggest stars of the basketball world showed off their skills on a Maryland court Tuesday night.

Lucky fans got the rare chance to see big names, like Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and LeBron James, in action in Charm City.

Vic Carter reports on the hoop hoopla at Morgan State University.

The home court at Morgan State University holds 4,500 people and every seat was taken when NBA royalty rolled through.

At Morgan State University, where there's a rich history of basketball success, an unprecedented page was added on Tuesday night.

"I'm just glad I can see some NBA talent, superstars.  I want to see some dunks!  Boom!" said junior Elisha Hannibal.

Boom indeed, when dynamite players LeBon James, Chris Paul and Charm City's own Carmelo Anthony took the court at the school's Field House.  The stars representing the Baltimore-based Melo League took on the Washington-based Goodman League, featuring Kevin Durant, who's also from Maryland.

"It's just a perfect opportunity to show the facility and the home court that Baltimore claims very proudly," said Jarrett Carter, Morgan State University.

Many NBA fans like the Radov brothers were hungry for any hoops action they can get, since a lockout could stop the regular season.

"It's just an unbelievable opportunity.  You have to go if you're a big basketball fan," said Daniel Radov.

"And unless you get VIP tickets, it's Wild West style---first come, first go," said Michael Radov.

The Radovs got in line at noon, though tickets didn't go on sale until 5.  It was $100 for floor seats and $40 for general admission.

"I think I can squeeze out $40 for them," said student Kellie Jackson.

"I was ecstatic.  I just called my mom, like, `Can you give me some money?'" Hannibal said.

Whatever it takes to be part of what promises to be a slam dunk of an experience.

"This is really our last shot until 2012 or even 2013, so we're pumped," said Daniel Radov.

You could only see those guys play if you were lucky enough to have a ticket.  The game was not televised or shown on the Internet.

All proceeds from the game will go to the Carmelo Anthony Youth Center.

The Melo League ended up winning 149-141.
