Navy Dominates American University 72-53
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- J.J. Avila scored 24 points to lead Navy to a 72-53 victory over American University on Wednesday night.
In a game that was delayed for over an hour-and-a-half due to the winter storm that hit the east coast Wednesday afternoon, the Midshipmen (7-15, 2-4 Patriot League) made 11 3-pointers (11 for 27, 40.7 percent) and held American to 29-percent shooting (9 of 31) in the second half.
Navy led 35-29 at halftime and by as many as 26, 67-41, with 6:54 left to play. American made only four field goals in the final 12:45 and shot 0 for 13 from 3-point range in the second half.
Vlad Moldoveanu scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Eagles (14-7, 4-2), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Jordan Sugars added 15 points for the Midshipmen, who shot 14 for 26 from the floor (53.8 percent), including 7 of 14 from beyond the arc after halftime.
