Natural Gas Smell Reported Downtown Not A Danger
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore City Fire Department says it has determined the smell of natural gas reported downtown is not a danger.
Fire officials say a company was cleaning sludge out of a chemical tank on Russell Street and did not use enough of a cleaning additive that stops the smell from going out to surrounding areas.
Fire crews were on the scene, but say the odor is nontoxic and not a danger to residents.
The company says they conduct the cleaning once a year. From here on, they say they will notify residents and city officials beforehand in order to avoid any similar incidents.
