National Cathedral Celebrates Court's Gay Marriage Ruling
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Churches that have already embraced same-sex marriage are celebrating the Supreme Court's ruling that legalizes same-sex marriages, including the National Cathedral.
The Very Rev. Gary Hall, dean of the cathedral, says the court's decision was a "momentous step forward" toward marriage equality. But he says discrimination remains against gays and lesbians.
Hall says the faith community has much work to do to end discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
The Episcopal cathedral began celebrating same-sex marriages in 2013 under Hall's direction.
The cathedral dean says his faith led him to understand that both same-sex and heterosexual couples are equal in the eyes of God and deserve the same rights and privileges. Hall says sexual orientation is part of human identity.
