National Archives To Honor Historian Taylor Branch
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Archives plans to honor civil rights historian Taylor Branch for his scholarship and will feature the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian in an interview with former Attorney General Eric Holder.
The National Archives Foundation will announce Thursday that Branch, of Baltimore, will be awarded the 2015 Records of Achievement Award. The prize will be given in October.
In a statement, Branch says he is humbled by the honor. He says the National Archives serves to help enlighten the future by allowing people to confront the past.
The award is an annual tribute given to an individual whose work has fostered more national awareness of history and the identity of the United States. Past recipients of the award include Steven Spielberg, Ken Burns, John Hope Franklin, Tom Brokaw and David McCullough.
