Multiple Cars Set On Fire In Mount Vernon
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore Fire officials are investigating after multiple cars were set on fire early Friday morning.
It happened in the area of Charles Street in Mount Vernon. Officials said seven cars were burned and two additional cars caught fire by extension have heat damage.
Friday afternoon, Baltimore police and the ATF obtained surveillance photos of a woman they believe is a person of interest. They say they hope the public can identify her.
BPD interim commissioner Gary Tuggle said in a press conference Friday that ATF is assisting in the investigation.
Baltimore City Fire Spokeswoman Blair Skinner said they are investigating if the incidents are connected.
"It's just sad, sad that someone would actually have it in their heart to do something like this, just disheartening, really is," said Helena, a Mount Vernon resident.
It happened between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. in a ten-block radius, where residents in the area woke up to loud booms and explosions.
"Somebody apparently took an accelerant and put it on a number of cars, we believe seven at this point and set those cars on fire," Tuggle said.
Most of the completely destroyed vehicles in the area of Charles and Chase Street.
"It's frustrating and its a much bigger problem," said John, another resident.
"We're going through the entire process, not going to leave any stone unturned, think it was a random act," Tuggle said.
