MTA Unveils Mobility Vehicles For Disabled Riders
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The MTA is catering to disabled riders.
The Maryland Transit Administration is unveiling new mobility vehicles--called MV-1s.
The first 10 are in service now and 30 more are being added over the next two months under a $2 million contract.
The vehicles are designed specifically for those in wheelchairs and will replace its fleet of sedans and cut-away buses.
It is estimated the additions will get better gas mileage and will save the MTA about $900,000 a year.
The agency's long-term goal is to replace all 120 sedans and have MV-1s represent 70 percent of its fleet by 2017.
MV-1s are manufactured in Indiana.
