Mother Speaks Out After Police Say Her 7-Year-Old Was Sexually Assaulted
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A disturbing case out of Prince George's County after a 7-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at gunpoint.
Rochelle Ritchie has more from that girl's mother and police.
Police are working night and day to get the alleged predator off the streets. The girl's mother is obviously upset as she tries to console her daughter, whose innocence was robbed.
A heartbroken mother spoke out as she copes with horrific news that her daughter was sexually assaulted.
"I cry a lot. I blank out a lot," she said.
Prince George's County police say the little girl was riding on her scooter with friends around 3 p.m. Saturday when she got separated from the group. Suddenly, a strange man approached with a gun.
"Displayed that handgun and threatened her. He dragged her into a wooded area where he sexually assaulted her," said Harry Bond, Prince George's County police.
The girl's mother says it's been a nightmare.
"She's distraught. She just wants to be a kid again. She asks me can we go on a vacation so she can stop thinking about it," her mom said.
The little girl is now out of the hospital.
Police officers are knocking on doors and canvassing the neighborhood, looking for any clues that could lead to the suspect.
As people drive on Heathermore Boulevard, police have now put up a sign asking for any information that could lead to the arrest of a predator.
"I was outraged to hear such a story. I have two daughters. I would never think this would happen near our building," said.
The suspect is described as an older white male with a heavy build, bald and with a goatee-style gray beard.
"This is sick. This is scary. I mean every parent with a child is scared because she was riding her bike in broad daylight," her mom said.
If you have any information, please call police.
