Mother Arrested After Leaving 2 Young Daughters Alone In The Car
WALDORF, Md. (WJZ) -- There's yet another incident of a parent locking their kids inside a car while they go into a mall.
Mike Schuh has details.
On Tuesday, it was 16 degrees at the mall in Waldorf, Charles County. A shopper spotted two girls inside a Cadillac crying.
Police were called. Ninety minutes after locking them in, police say the mom, 28-year-old Regina Coleman, returned from getting her makeup done. She was arrested.
Shoppers are aghast.
"In this day and time, people should be a little bit more careful than leaving kids alone in the car," one man said.
There have been a rash of these incidents.
On New Year's Eve in the parking garage at the Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills, 24-year-old Alicia Brown was charged with locking her 4-year-old daughter inside their car and leaving her there for hours.
Police found the girl sobbing inside the car. Now mom has four neglect charges filed against her.
Later the same week at the same mall, a 6-year-old boy was left for an hour and a half in a snow-covered car. His grandfather, who went to the mall to pick up the boy's mother, was arrested.
What to make of all these incidents? This parent sums it up.
"It's totally irresponsible. Totally irresponsible," he said.
The woman in the Charles County incident has been charged with neglect.
