Mother & 2 Sons Burned In Apartment Fire
ABERDEEN, Md. (WJZ)--Deputy State Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of a bedroom fire that sent a mother and her two children to Johns Hopkins Hospitals in Baltimore with serious burn injuries.
The 26-year-old mother was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center and her two sons, ages 2 and 4, were transported to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics Hospital Center.
All three received burns to their upper extremities and were outside the building when firefighters arrived on scene.
The 10:16 a.m. one-alarm fire in the 200-block of Law Street in Aberdeen was contained to the bedroom of the second floor apartment of the two-story wood framed two-unit structure by approximately 25 firefighters from Aberdeen, Susquehanna Hose and Aberdeen Proving Grounds fire departments within five minutes.
Investigators determined smoke alarms were not operating inside the apartment at the time of the fire. Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000. Two occupants in the first floor apartment escaped uninjured.
The cause for the fire remains under investigation.
