Morgan State Holds Off Hampton 80-78 In MEAC Play
HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- DeWayne Jackson came off the bench to score 24 points and Morgan State edged Hampton 80-78 Saturday night in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.
Jackson hit 9 of 14 field goal attempts, 3 of 5 from 3-point range, for the Bears (5-9, 2-1). Three teammates also finished in double figures. Anthony Hubbard scored 13 points, Justin Black 12 and Ian Chiles 10.
The Bears led 42-33 at halftime, but Hampton (5-11, 2-1) rallied. The Pirates got double-doubles from Deron Powers (19 points, 10 assists) and Emmanuel Okoroba (15 points, 10 rebounds). Although Hampton was outscored 40-18 in the paint, the Pirates hit 31 of 36 foul shots to get back in it.
They led 76-75 on six straight Okoroba points. But Chiles broke a 77-77 tie on a layup with 1:11 left and Donte Pretlow hit a foul shot with 42 seconds left to make it 80-77.
