Montgomery County Police Seek Suspects In Pigeon Drop Scam

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ)-- Montgomery County police are looking for two suspects in a larceny known as a Pigeon Drop scam.

Police say that at 11 a.m. on June 19, the 87-year-old female victim had left the Giant in the White Oak Shopping Center at New Hampshire Avenue.

Police say an unknown female walked beside her on the sidewalk when an unknown male holding a bag filled with cash asked them if the bag belonged to either of the women. When both women denied that the bag belonged to them, the man told them that he worked at the nearby Capital One Bank and was willing to share the money with them if they contributed $20,000 in cash each in good faith.

One woman immediately produced $20,000 in cash while the 87-year-old woman withdrew $15,000 from the bank.  She went home to produce jewelry worth more than $10,000, which she gave to the woman.

When she returned to the shopping center from her home, the man was gone and the other woman quickly fled. The 87-year-old victim then called police.

The female suspect is described as a white woman in her late 30s or 40s, 5'4" tall with a round face. Another witness told police that they believed she might actually have blond hair but was wearing a wig, as she is seen with dark hair in the surveillance photo.

The male suspect is described as an African-American male in his late 30s or 40s, 6 feet tall with a medium build, short black hair and no facial hair.
