Montgomery Co. Police Investigating 3 Incidents Of Kidnapping And Robbery
WHEATON, Md. (WJZ)-- Montgomery County Police are investigating a robbery and kidnapping at a Target store in Wheaton.
Police said that at about 1:50 p.m. Sunday, a 77-year-old man was entering his vehicle when he was approached by an unknown male suspect armed with a box cutter. The suspect ordered the man to get in his vehicle and drive him to unknown locations, possibly in an attempt to withdraw cash from the victim's bank accounts. The suspect eventually drove to the 3500-block of East-West Highway in Hyattsville where he fled on foot.
A passerby noticed the victim sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle and called police. The suspect had cut the victim with the box cutter and beat him on his head and face. The victim was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
Detectives are also investigating two other similar crimes that took place on Nov. 23 and Nov. 26. They believe the three kidnappings were carried out by the same suspect.
The suspect is described as an African-American male about 35 to 45 years of age, 5'11" to 6 feet tall and weighing about 175 to 180 lbs.
Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the Montgomery County Police who are offering up to $1,000 in cash for information leading up to the suspect's arrest.
