MLB Expressed Concerns About Md. Minor League Park
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The majority owner of the Hagerstown Suns says Major League Baseball and the Washington Nationals have requested improvements to the 80-year-old stadium that the minor league team calls home.
Bruce Quinn told The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown Tuesday that major-league officials sent him a letter in October seeking upgrades to city-owned Municipal Stadium.
Quinn says the letter prompted the team's owners to consider moving the club elsewhere.
He says a substandard playing surface and antiquated clubhouse facilities are major problems at Municipal Stadium.
The Suns are considering moving to Winchester, Va., if officials there can guarantee funding for a new stadium.
Meanwhile, Hagerstown officials say they're considering sites for possible construction of a new stadium in Hagerstown.
The team is an affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
