Miracle Ties Designed By Hopkins Children's Center Patients Are Now On Sale
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— They're designed by the young patients, and that's just one of the reasons they're so special.
Ron Matz reports the Miracle Ties benefitting the Johns Hopkins Children's Center are on sale now.
Young artists designed the beautiful ties in the Miracle Ties Collection, now on sale at Joseph A Bank.
Eleven-year-old Lilah's Sidle designed an apple and worm tie.
"I drew apples and worms because I was eating an apple when I drew the tie," Lilah said.
"It's a wonderful time of year. It's a time of year when we get to celebrate the community of Baltimore and the partnership between Joseph A Bank and the Johns Hopkins Children's Center," said Dr. George Dover, Johns Hopkins Children's Center.
In 16 years, Miracle Tie sales have raised $900,000 for the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.
"I remember when the Miracle Tie collection started. It was just when I came to Hopkins. It has done so much, not only for the children and their families at Hopkins, it's really become a tradition," Dr. Dover said.
The kids keep this colorful Baltimore tradition going.
"I want people to buy my tie to help Johns Hopkins," Lilah said.
"The money we get every year we spend because it keeps the doors open," Dr. Dover said. "The hospital is a very stressful place, and we have special people there who help the children and their families any way they can to make the visit as pleasant experience as possible."
John and Hope Harris, of Frostburg, are honoring their 9-year-old daughter, Mya.
"Mya was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was 6 years old," said Hope Harris, Mya's mother. "She was coming to Johns Hopkins about every two months for treatments. She recently passed in May. We are here today in her honor and to celebrate her," and the kids who make miracles every day.
