Mikulski To Attend White House Meeting On Baltimore Recovery
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski is scheduled to attend a meeting at the White House to discuss helping parts of Baltimore recover from damage due to unrest after the death last month of Freddie Gray.
Mikulski said Wednesday on WBAL-AM's "Maryland's News Now with Bryan Nehman" that she is scheduled to meet with Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to the president.
Mikulski, a Democrat, says she will be asking about federal financial assistance as well as technical help to help address systemic problems in the city.
Mikulski declined to refer to the unrest as "a riot." When asked why she wouldn't, she referred to it as a "significant disturbance," primarily in one neighborhood. She later apologized on "The C4 Show," saying that she did not mean to minimize the problem.
