Mike Preston's Report Card

Courtesy of the Baltimore Sun:

Quarterback: B

Joe Flacco played well, and he is making a lot of plays with his feet. Even when under pressure, Flacco has been able to break tackles and make things happen.

Running backs: C

The problem is that Ray Rice is inconsistent, and backup Bernard Pierce doesn't get as much time to showcase his talents. Grade: C

Receivers: B

When Joe Flacco had time, the Lions couldn't cover the Ravens receivers.Grade: B

Linebackers: B-

Inside linebacker Daryl Smith played well and might have been the team's top defensive players. Outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil was dominant in the first half, but the Ravens still need more from fellow outside linebacker Terrell Suggs. Grade: B-

Secondary: B

The Ravens didn't stop Calvin Johnson, but they contained him to some degree. Cornerback Jimmy Smith is gradually making a name for himself throughout the league.  Grade: B

Special teams: A

It's hard to imagine where the Ravens would be without Justin Tucker. He is Mr. Automatic from anywhere inside 60 yards, especially in a dome. The Ravens controlled Detroit's return game with good coverage, and Jacoby Jones gave the Ravens nice field position on the final kickoff return, which set up the game-winning field goal. Grade: A
