Midshipman Found Unresponsive, Dies At The U.S. Naval Academy
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- A midshipman died Thursday night after being found unresponsive in a dorm at the Naval Academy.
According to Naval Academy officials, said the midshipman was found unresponsive in Bancroft Hall.
The cause of death is under investigation but officials don't suspect foul play was involved.
The identity of the midshipman will not be released until 24 hours after their family has been notified.
"I think it's devastating for the brigade and we have to wait until we find out what the cause is, but like any other college campus, it's very difficult," said Maggie McDowell.
Officials said counseling services and support are being made available to other midshipmen, faculty, staff and coaches through chains of command, their chaplains, and the Midshipmen Development Center.
This is the second midshipman who died at the Naval Academy this month. Midshipman 3rd Class Duke Carrillo died during the 1.5-mile run section of the physical readiness test on February 8.
Carillo had a twin brother and a younger brother who attend the academy.
