Metro To Mark Crash Anniversary With Wreath Laying
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro is marking the anniversary of the 2009 train crash that killed a train operator and eight passengers with a wreath-laying ceremony.
The transit agency is planning a ceremony Wednesday morning at the Fort Totten station on the red line where the crash happened.
The National Transit Safety Board determined in a report issued last summer that the crash occurred because of a problem with Metro's signaling system, which stopped detecting the presence of a stopped train and therefore failed to automatically slow an approaching train.
