Metro Police Switching To Brighter Uniforms

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro police will begin wearing brighter, more visible uniforms this summer.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1TG8wBX ) that Metro is making the change to give its police officers a new way to stand out in its dimly lit underground stations and on its densely packed rush-hour platforms.

Currently, officers wear dark navy blue. Metro said Friday that the new uniforms, featuring a neon-yellow color block and reflective trim, will help make it easier for passengers to spot officers.

Metro said the move is "one of several steps" it has taken in response to safety concerns expressed by riders.
