Metro Plans Improvements During Holiday Weekend
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro is warning of service changes for customers over the Memorial Day weekend as it will perform safety and reliability work on the Blue, Orange and Red lines.
Four stations will be closed: Capitol South, Eastern Market, Potomac Avenue and Stadium-Armory. The work is expected to begin at 10 p.m. Friday and will last through Monday, May 30.
It says buses will replace trains on the Blue and Orange lines between Federal Center SW and Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road stations. Free shuttle buses will replace Blue and Orange line trains and officials say customers using the bus service should anticipate 40 minutes extra travel time to their destinations.
Metro says the planned improvements include upgrading cell phone access at the four stations that will be closed.
