Metro Joins Museum To Offer Van Gogh Fare Cards
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro is partnering with The Phillips Collection to offer four commemorative SmarTrip fare cards with artworks by Vincent van Gogh.
The limited-edition cards are part of a promotion for the museum's "Van Gogh Repetitions" exhibition, which is on view through January.
The reusable plastic fare cards are available for $10. That includes $8 in fare value. The cards can be preordered online and will be sold at Metro stations by the end of October.
The cards can also be presented at The Phillips Collection to receive $3 off the $12 admission price. Cardholders also will get 20 percent off gift shop purchases.
"Vincent van Gogh's celebrated paintings bring joy to so many people around the world," said Sarah Schaffer of The Phillips Collection in a press release announcing the fare cards. She said the cards will put a little bit of van Gogh's magic into the hands of people who live in the Washington area.
The exhibit includes various versions of some of the artist's well-known paintings to examine how he repeated certain compositions during his career. Curators gathered more than 30 paintings and works on paper to follow van Gogh's career in the Netherlands and in France. The Cleveland Museum of Art will host the exhibition next year.
