Metro Finishes Inspection Of More Than 450 Cars
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro says it has finished inspecting more than 450 train cars as a result of an incident last week where a break part fell off an orange line train.
Metro says that a metal disk called a "friction ring" fell off an orange line train Friday near the Stadium-Armory stop. No one was injured. Metro inspected 464 rail cars with similar brake parts. The trains were put into service in the 1980s and 1990s.
Metro said in a news release Monday that as a precaution it has replaced more than 290 friction rings from brake assemblies that were showing wear. The agency says replacing the rings exceeds the standards set by the original manufacturer.
