Mercer Breaks Late Tie To Beat Navy 73-68
MACON, Ga. (AP) -- Jake Gollon made a layup with 11 seconds left to play, breaking a tie and sealing a 73-68 victory for Mercer over Navy on Friday night.
The Bears (3-7) trailed 68-66 with 1:11 remaining before Gollon made two free throws to tie the score at 68.
After a missed 3-pointer from Jordan Sugars with 48 seconds left, Gollon nailed the game-winning layup to seal Mercer's first win since Nov. 26 and break a four-game losing streak.
Jeff Smith led Mercer with 22 points and Brian Mills added 17 points and seven rebounds.
The Bears shot 26 of 48 from the field (54.2 percent) and posted a 35-24 rebounding advantage over Navy -- which led by as many as eight, 55-47, with 12:59 left to play.
Sugars led the Midshipmen (4-8) with 23 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while Mark Veazey added 15 and Greg Brown 10.
