Mental Patient Found Incompetent For Trial
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- A Gaithersburg man charged with murdering his roommate at Maryland's maximum-security psychiatric hospital has been found not competent to stand trial. But that could change.
A Howard County judge has ordered re-evaluations of Vitali Davydov, 24, every 30 days.
He's still scheduled for trial Feb. 4 for first-degree murder in the beating death of David Rico-Noyola, 22, at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup last year.
Defense attorney Barry Helfand said Friday that Davydov's competence could be in question right up to his trial.
Davydov previously had been found competent for trial. The court reversed that finding Tuesday after a state psychiatrist testified he displayed tendencies of schizophrenia and paranoia.
Davydov was first committed to Perkins in 2006 after being found not criminally responsible for killing a Bethesda psychiatrist.
