Md. Woman Who Hired Brother To Kill Husband Sentenced To 60 Years
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)—The Baltimore County woman who asked her brother to kill her husband will be in prison until she's 91 years old.
Andrea Fujii was in the courtroom for her sentence.
Lee and Jaclyn Martin were married for nine years before she planned to have her husband killed. Now she'll spend 60 years in prison.
"He really didn't deserve what happened," said one person.
The 43-year-old's body was found in May 2010 outside his Dundalk bar, Hops Inn.
He was shot eight times in what was made to look like a robbery.
In January, Jaclyn Martin entered an Alford plea, essentially no contest to first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say she asked her brother Robert Garner to kill Martin.
The motive? Money.
"Frankly, I don't care if she can admit it to herself or not. We got the ultimate sentence that we thought was appropriate," said Scott Shellenberger, Baltimore County State's Attorney.
Garner pleaded guilty and admitted his sister planned the whole thing.
Defense attorneys claim Jaclyn Martin was the victim of domestic violence, but the judge and prosecutors say that's no justification to kill.
"There are so many ways to go where you don't have to use violence and you certainly don't have to murder," Shellenberger said.
Lee Martin's family was in the courtroom, including two sons from a previous marriage. They didn't want to speak on camera but expressed their gratitude for the prosecutor as they say it's been a long two years.
Two other men pleaded guilty for their involvement in the murder. One was charged with assault, the other with armed robbery.
