Md. Woman Charged With Burying Stillborn In Va.
MANASSAS, Va. (AP) -- A Maryland woman has been charged with concealing a dead body after police say she buried her apparently stillborn infant in a shallow grave in Virginia.
Prince William County police say Lisa Maria Steele, 27, of Oxon Hill, Md., gave birth on Sept. 19. Steele says the infant was stillborn.
Five days later, police responded to a trespassing call in the Nokesville area and found Steele. Police then found the infant's body buried in nearby woods.
Police in Maryland and Virginia investigated the case jointly.
Last week, Steele turned herself in to Virginia authorities after they obtained an arrest warrant on the concealment charge.
A police spokesman in Prince George's County, Md., says further charges are unlikely because they have no evidence to contradict Steele's claim of a stillbirth.
