Md. Toll Bridges To Get $11M Security Upgrade
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Five Maryland toll bridges are getting an $11 million security upgrade.
The Maryland Transportation Authority says its Chesapeake Bay, Key, Nice, Tydings and Hatem bridges will get new lighting, sensors to detect stopped vehicles and cameras. The Baltimore Sun reports that work on the 18-month project is expected to begin this winter.
Transportation authority spokeswoman Teri Moss says the contract for the technology-based project went to SAIC, a Virginia company with offices in Laurel. It's part of a plan to protect the state's infrastructure.
