Md. Teen Sentenced 60 Years In Slaying Of 92-Year-Old Woman
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland teenager has been sentenced to 60 years for the murder of an elderly neighbor in Prince George's County.
William Fitts of District Heights received the maximum sentence possible Friday after pleading guilty to charges including second-degree murder.
Prosecutors say they don't know a motive for the August 2011 slaying of 92-year-old Thelma Steele, who was found dead on her couch of stab wounds. Fitts lived across the street from the woman.
Authorities say Fitts admitted to stabbing Steele several times with a pocket knife. They say he stole her purse, cash and credit card, which he used to buy "organic" marijuana from the Internet.
