Md. Teen Gets Juvenile Status In Child's Shooting
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Washington County judge has referred a 17-year-old girl to juvenile authorities in the accidental shooting of a 2-year-old boy.
Fantaisa Rivera was initially charged as an adult for allegedly hiding a handgun after the boy found it under a bed and shot himself in the chest in his family's Hagerstown home.
Judge Donald Beachley ordered Rivera transferred to the juvenile justice system Wednesday.
The boy's brother, 17-year-old Marcus Longus, still faces adult charges including allowing a minor access to a firearm.
Police say Longus and Rivera were in the bedroom when the child shot himself in September.
The gun had been reported stolen three weeks earlier from a federal law enforcement officer's car in Keedysville.
