Md. Symphony Holds Antietam Battlefield Event
SHARPSBURG, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Symphony Orchestra is traveling to the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg to announce the results of a fundraising campaign for its annual outdoor concert there.
The Hagerstown-based orchestra planned a news conference at 10 a.m. Monday.
The location of the announcement is a giveaway that the group has met its fundraising goal of $50,000 for the Salute to Independence concert scheduled for July 2.
The orchestra said in March that the concert was in jeopardy due to reduced corporate support and a possible cut in National Park Service funding.
The tradition is in its 26th year.
The free event draws about 35,000 to the battlefield for a concert that includes fireworks and cannon fire.
