Md. Senate Considers Medical Marijuana Bill
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—A bill legalizing medical marijuana goes before Senate lawmakers Thursday in Annapolis.
Alex DeMetrick reports the House of Delegates overwhelmingly approved the medical marijuana bill this week.
Senate lawmakers say they will now give the bill careful consideration.
The bill legalizes medical marijuana under very certain restrictions, so if it passes it's unclear how many dispensaries would open and where.
Meanwhile, the Senate already passed legislation decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana.
Supporters of the House medical marijuana bill say it's a step toward a compassionate treatment option for people with illnesses such as cancer.
Maryland's medical marijuana bill would limit distribution of marijuana to a small number of qualified academic medical centers.
