Md.'s Catoctin Mountain Park To Close During G-8
THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- The National Park Service says the park surrounding Camp David will be closed to the public when leaders of the Group of Eight leading industrialized nations meet at the presidential retreat later this month.
The agency said Thursday that Catoctin Mountain Park near Thurmont will be closed from 8 a.m. May 17 through 8 a.m. May 20.
The G-8 summit is scheduled for May 18-19. The park service says the closure was requested by Secret Service to protect the president and his guests.
Officials say any camping reservations made for that period will be refunded or credited toward a future stay.
Neighboring Cunningham Falls State Park will also be closed during the summit. The nearest state campgrounds are at Gambrill and Greenbrier state parks, both about 18 miles away.
