Md.'s Bartlett Won Primary With GOP Leaders' Help
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Generous contributions from some top Republican leaders helped Maryland 6th District Congressman Roscoe Bartlett win the GOP primary last week.
The Washington Post reports that House Speaker John Boehner gave Bartlett $14,000 from two different accounts.
House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy and Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam kicked in $5,000 apiece.
Federal Election Commission records show that Bartlett got a total of $63,000 from the campaign accounts or political action committees of 28 different House Republican colleagues since Jan. 1. That's about a quarter of the total he raised over the period.
Bartlett faces wealthy financier John Delaney in the November general election. Delaney raised more than $800,000 from outside donors, roughly three times Bartlett's total. He also kicked in roughly $1.7 million from his own bank account.
