Md. Runaway To Be Charged As Juvenile In Car Theft
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- State police say a 16-year-old boy who ran away from a western Maryland group home will be charged as a juvenile for allegedly stealing a car and trying to break into a home after crashing the vehicle on Interstate 70 near Hagerstown.
Police said Thursday the youth was found last week in Montgomery County after a 2 1/2-week search.
He disappeared July 7 from the Salem Children's Trust group home near Grantsville, about 80 miles from Hagerstown. The home is a private, non-secure facility that contracts with the state Department of Juvenile Services.
Police say the boy was driving a stolen Jeep Cherokee with West Virginia tags July 8 that struck a State Highway Administration mowing vehicle and crashed into a guardrail near the I-81 interchange.
