Md. Residents Displaced After Earthquake
HILLCREST HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- The American Red Cross is assisting about 50 residents who were displaced from their apartments in Prince George's County after the East Coast earthquake.
The residents were being sheltered at the Hillcrest Heights Community Center on Wednesday morning. They were displaced from apartment buildings in Temple Hills and Hillcrest Heights following Tuesday's quake. The buildings were evacuated due to structural concerns.
Karen Holmes, a volunteer with the Red Cross, says about 120 people initially sought shelter at the recreation center.
Tuesday's magnitude 5.8 quake was the East Coast's largest since 1944.
