Md. Public Safety Secretary In Western Md.
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Public Safety and Correctional Services Secretary Gary Maynard is making a trip to Cumberland to talk about inmate work projects.
Maynard will meet Thursday afternoon with the Allegany County Commissioners. An agency spokesman says Maynard is touting inmate work projects such as forest restoration and bay grass replenishment.
Inmates also have built equipment to help rebuild the Chesapeake Bay oyster population, and they have furnished Oriole Park at Camden Yards with signs, decals and restored player lockers.
Allegany County is home to two maximum-security state prisons. They are North Branch Correctional Institution, with about 1,400 inmates, and Western Correctional Institution, which has 1,700 inmates.
