Md. Police: Officers Shot Man After Pursuit
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say two Salisbury officers fired at an SUV accelerating toward them after a pursuit and crash.
Two officers tried to stop a Ford Expedition early Sunday after it crossed the centerline and almost hit their cruiser. But police say the driver, 21-year-old Tremont Wright of Princess Anne, refused to stop, striking another officer's cruiser before swerving off the road and into an embankment.
The two original officers ordered Wright to surrender, but police say he reversed toward the officers, who fired at the SUV, striking Wright in the leg.
Police say traffic and criminal charges are pending against Wright, who is being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
The three officers were not injured. State police are investigating the incident.
