Md. Police: Man Fatally Shot During Traffic Stop
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police are identifying a Delaware man fatally shot during a traffic stop.
Police say Wilmington police contacted Maryland authorities for help finding James Norris, who was wanted on handgun charges. Police say Norris, 25, was fatally shot Monday in Salisbury after troopers tracking him stopped the car he was traveling in.
When a trooper spoke to Norris, he put both hands in his jacket pockets. When the trooper told Norris not to, police say Norris said one of them would die, prompting the trooper to pull his gun.
More than one shot was heard and Norris died at a hospital. Police say he was clutching two guns in his pockets, but it isn't clear yet whether he shot himself or was shot by the trooper.
