Md. Play Casts Robin Hood As Occupy Movement Hero
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Robbing from the rich and giving to the poor has made Robin Hood a hero of the 99 percent.
The Maryland Ensemble Theatre presents the world premiere Friday in Frederick of its new musical, "Robin Hood: Occupy Sherwood."
Writer Sarah Shulman says the Robin Hood legend is the perfect parallel for today's economic and political climate. She says the rich are still getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
The music is rock-and-roll but Shulman says there are plenty of duels and archery competitions to satisfy ardent fans of the traditional Robin Hood.
